My Idea of a Perfect Mother’s Day

Ahhhh, Mothers Day.  I have fond memories of the homemade cards I presented to my mum when I was at primary school and she always looked delighted to receive my colourful splodges. When I got  a bit older I even used my pocket money to buy her a box of chocolates and a bunch of carnations.

Now, as a mum myself I have my own idea of what a perfect mother’s day would involve and surprisingly, it wouldn’t cost the earth!

Our Meningitis scare. Be aware!!

Meningitis. The mere mention of this illness is enough to strike fear into the heart of any parent. It is easy to misdiagnose in the early stages and can lead to permanent disability or in the worst case, death if not treated early. Both myself and my husband have survived meningitis (about 20 years apart) relatively unscathed  but it is a scary diagnosis.  It is even scarier when it doesn’t present in a typical way which makes misdiagnosis more likely. My husband and son (who was 18 months old at the time) were both very poorly  in early 2016, one of them had flu and the other had meningitis.  I’m sharing our story in the hopes that it may help someone else in the same situation.

Ten tips to reduce screentime and get some time for the things you ‘don’t have time for’

Whether it’s in our pocket, our bag or even in another room it is usually within easy reach and constantly demanding our attention. Phones have really taken over our lives and in many ways are hugely beneficial to us but they are also sapping our time.

Have you ever said “I don’t have time for that today” and yet have you paid attention to how much time has then been spent on social media watching humorous gifs, playing mindless games or reading articles that have not actually benefitted you in any way? I know I have.
