I don’t think anyone needs me to state the obvious by saying that modern life is hectic. It seems that there are more demands on our time than ever before. I’m sure I’m not the only one that frequently finds themselves frustratedly saying, “I just haven’t got the time !!!” Continue reading “I’m Sorry, I Haven’t Got Time….”
I previously wrote a blog post about how I wasn’t going to potty train my 2 year old and I am now happy to say that our lovely little bundle of fun is not wearing nappies during the day any more. He is 3 and a half years old and due to start school in September shortly after he turns 4 so it does come as a welcome relief.
A new Change4LIfe campaign has been launched in the UK regarding the choice of healthier snacks for children which aims to help combat childhood obesity and reduce the daily intake of sugar.
From a dentists point of view this is great! We really want kids to have less sugar, especially as the number of tooth extractions on children under the age of four is steadily increasing (further info)
So how much sugar is too much?
Our little girl took us by surprise and arrived two weeks earlier than anticipated which meant that I ended up missing my last day of work and starting my maternity leave earlier than expected. I was going to have a couple of weeks to get myself sorted and prepare for her birth whilst spending as much one on one time as possible with our son. As so often happens in life, events didn’t quite go to plan so I was left hurriedly buying some newborn sleepsuits on the way to hospital!
Looking back at the time around our son’s birth I feel I learned a lot from the choices I made in the early days, especially during my maternity leave. There are a few things that I would like to approach in a different way this time.
I am a dentist as well as being a mum and as such I will not be denying my son any involvement in the fun of Halloween. I’m not likely to take him out ‘trick or treating’ this year purely because I won’t get back from work in time but it is definitely something he will be able to take part with in the future.
We booked our trip to Bluestone early in 2017 having heard from some friends about it’s existence and about how good it is for families. They have returned to Bluestone with their son for the last 3 years and after hearing of their recommendation we decided to book a break in October 2017 which happily coincided with their next stay.
Part of the reason we wanted to go in October was to tie it in with my husbands and my birthdays at the start of October and with Z having another year before starting school we thought we would take advantage of an out of school holiday break.
At the time of booking we didn’t know I would be 34 weeks pregnant when we stayed at the resort.
Whether it’s in our pocket, our bag or even in another room it is usually within easy reach and constantly demanding our attention. Phones have really taken over our lives and in many ways are hugely beneficial to us but they are also sapping our time.
Have you ever said “I don’t have time for that today” and yet have you paid attention to how much time has then been spent on social media watching humorous gifs, playing mindless games or reading articles that have not actually benefitted you in any way? I know I have.
